Hill of Beans 1

This marks an experimental phase for LOLZIES!!1@!. I don’t mean “experimental” in that pretentious way it is often used, which is as a substitute for the honest sentence, “No one understands my flights of esoteric fancy.” What I mean by “experimental” is that I’ll be experimenting with various tools (pen nibs, brushes), character design and story lines as I try to make a move toward the traditional methods of cartooning. I have a little too much digital in my life right now, so this will be good for me in several ways.

One other reason is my looking a little bit into the future for LOLZIES!!1@!. If I ever wanted to print a collection of my comics for sale, I would be in a real pickle because of the limited license I have on all the stock photos I buy each week. But if I illustrate them myself, I own them entirely and can print as many as I like (which will really only be one copy for my parents and one for my wife).

Anyhow, here we go. Thanks for reading.

Love,

Charlie

    Ahhh, finally a character with great taste in shoes AND big feet! Nicely done, Chazzy! You can add me as a third for your upcoming book.

    I like the experimentation so far. Are future hand-drawn installments also going to revolve around the beans, or will you branch out to other legumes or even other vegetable families?

    So maybe when my wife says I look like an idiot wearing a bluetooth headset…she really likes it? Thank you, bean!

    Chaz, this is ugliest comic I’ve ever seen. Therefore, I’ll be your 5th sale.

    i gather this modeled after those hideous pair of shoes you bought in Odesolate…Nike Cortez.

    You know what my favorite part of this comic is? The boxes. They’re so straight, and the corners have a little weight to them. Oh and also, you put a soul patch on the soul-less character, Stachey (is it?). I can’t wait until he actually tries to get him.

    (Psst… Where’d his cane go in frame #3? Did it just stick in the ground like Willy Wonka’s?)

    Julie Terry,

    Au contraire. Those shoes are the gorgeous of the gorg.

    Finally getting around to answering some comments after a crazy week.

    @Morriss Partee: Huh?

    @Nala: Glad you like the shoes. I don’t know if Bean will always wear them. They were really just based on my latest pair of shoes and some of the reactions I got. But I’ll put you down for one book when the time comes.

    @Ben: The beans will be the main characters but yes, I do plan to branch out to other legumes, seeds, grains and other non-food characters. There will be a giant thing that will eat some of the beans and, predictably, suffer from gas.

    @Credit Union Warrior: It’s all in the timing. Try this one when you are getting in trouble with your wife, “I’m not in trouble for this.” It won’t get you out of anything. It’s just to help you brace yourself for your punishment.

    @Jessica: Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for your support.

    @Annie: I hope I can deliver something worth having been looked forward to. I will let you be the judge of that. Thanks for stopping by!

    @Caleb: My plan is working!

    @Craig: I’d love to say, “Family doesn’t have to pay.” but the cousins, aunts and uncles are too many.

    @Julie Terry: Yes, they are the same shoes. I love them. Thanks for reading my nonsense.

    @Neale: Thanks for appreciating such a small detail. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one to notice and enjoy things like that. Yes, Stachey is his name, Stachey LaRue. And you caught me with a continuity error right out of the gates! So, to save face, I’ll say, “Of course it was sticking in the ground!”

    @Brent Dixon: Thank you for defending my shoes bilingually. Very exotic.

    @All of you, seriously, thanks so much for reading.

    I can hear you doing Stachey’s voice in my head, and it’s hilarious! Great ink work!

    Will you one day record the voices? Better yet, let me be Bean and do it in my “Hey Guy” voice.
